Dr. Ryan Dickerson
Dr. Ryan Dickerson was first exposed to Midwifery care at Baylor University Medical Center. During his time in Dallas he was able to experience the particular set of skills that midwives have in comparison to the care than an OBGYN provides. When he came to Baton Rouge he saw the lack of options for out of hospital births. He decided that our community needed the special care that the midwives give and in 2012 the journey began when he attended a conference for starting a birth center.
Dr. Dickerson specializes in assisting infertile couples. He also specializes in using robotics, which increases the ability to remove uterine fibroids and surgically treat other gynecologic conditions without significant incisions.
In 2020, Dr. Dickerson won Favorite OBGYN and his wife, Dr. Mary Dickerson won Favorite Dermatologist in Baton Rouge Parents Magazine.
Hannah Covington
Hannah is our Office Manager where she oversees daily work flow. She has been a certified Phlebotomist for 10 years and also manages our lab. She started in the birth world as a certified doula, then a midwife assistant and childbirth educator.
Her interest in childbirth began when her own birth experience did not go as planned. As a result, she explored options, educated herself about childbirth methods, and learned the importance of having the physical and emotional support of someone trained and knowledgeable about labor. She discovered her desire to be that person for other birthing women. In 2014, Hannah gave birth to Luke at Birth Center of Baton Rouge, fulfilling her dream of a natural birth with no unnecessary interventions. In 2019 she birthed her son, Baker at Birth Center of Baton Rouge.
"I feel like what sets us apart from other clinics is our deep attention to care and the complete wellness of our clients. Individualized care is so important to me and making each client feel special is my favorite way to serve. Things as simple as remembering details about their lives and their family can make a persons day. I also really enjoy and take pride in my work in the lab. I try very hard to make it a great experience for even our moms who are afraid of needles!" - Hannah Covington
Malorie Gautreau
Our receptionist and phlebotomist, Malorie, entered the birth world after working in childcare. While working with infants and children, she discovered a desire to connect with families during their transition into parenthood.
"Working with the Birth Center, I have become passionate about educating our community on what birth centers and midwives bring to the table. I love creating a welcoming environment, not only in my personal life but for my second home at the Birth Center." -Malorie
Jenn Mayard, RDMS
Jenn is our sonographer who joined us in early 2021. She has five years of experience in OB/GYN ultrasounds. Before being a registered diagnostic medical sonographer, she was a kindergarten teacher. As a former educator, Jenn loves to share what she sees on the ultrasound. She especially enjoys the 15-week gender and 3D/4D scans in the third trimester.
“I love the atmosphere of the birth center and how it truly feels like we are all part of a big, extended family.”
Amy Haltom RN
Amy is born and raised in Baton Rouge. She graduated with her Bachelors in Nursing from University of Louisiana in Lafayette in 2001 and her first job in nursing was in Postpartum care and GYN surgery. Amy worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse from 2002 until she moved to OB Home Health where she worked in prenatal care, in-home IV hydration, hypertension and diabetic education. She worked as a Travel Nurse in Labor and Delivery for 4 years before she started with Birth Center of Baton Rouge in 2015. Amy has been our nurse manager since 2018.
Her OB instructor in nursing school was a certified nurse midwife and the first person to introduce her to the midwifery model of care. She got a chance to work with midwives when Baton Rouge General allowed Midwife privileges. These experiences allowed her the opportunity to compare midwifery care to hospital care, solidifying her love of natural birth and the desire to support women.
