History of Birth Center of Baton Rouge
After moving from Dallas to Baton Rouge, Dr. Ryan Dickerson noticed that the families in the area had fewer options for their natural birth. In a hospital setting, it can be difficult for a mother to achieve her desires for her birth and Dr. Dickerson knew it could be better. During his time in Dallas he worked with midwives and saw their different skill sets integrated together really well. Midwives are equipped to provide the best birth experience for a normal, healthy pregnancy. Doctors are needed to step in when necessary, or for families that choose a hospital setting.
In 2012 he attended a conference specifically focused on starting a birth center where the vision started to become clear. In 2013 a team of trusted midwives were put together and an office space was renovated to become the first birth center in Baton Rouge. It was an enormous relief in May of 2014 when the doors opened and Birth Center of Baton Rouge gave the community a safe and welcoming option to achieve their best birth.
Our birth center finalized the strenuous process of accreditation through CABC in September 2014 which means that we are held to the highest standards of care and safety. Just 4 years after our start, we found ourselves needing a larger space. At this time, Associates in Women’s Health, which includes Thomas, Taylor, Harris became partners and were involved with designing our new building on the Woman's Hospital campus. Each of the doctors that support Birth Center of Baton Rouge are proud to be able to provide a comfortable and safe place for families to birth outside of the hospital. Our goal is to make every mother feel like she is birthing surrounded by supportive providers that know how to fulfill her desires, because that is what she deserves.
